Halloween Doodle Series

Image
I made this series of doodles using ink, pencil, paper, and colored pencils. Starting off, I drew each character with pencil. Then I traced the lines using a pen. Finally, I added a background for each drawing. The majority of the drawings in this series have monochromatic color. The only exception is the last drawing, which have pink, purple and orange colors. The lines are cross hatched for the roof tops, the sand and the grass. Each of the characters were drawn with organic lines. The only mechanic lines are for the buildings in the first, second and fifth drawings and the pyramid in the fourth drawing. I made this series The Toons of Halloween to introduce people to the classic monsters and Halloween themed characters. The first drawing Witch Kitty represents the witches and the black cats that accompany them. The second drawing Alicard the Vampire Bat represents the sophisticated and charismatic nature of vampires. The third drawing Frankpanda is a ...

Bonus: Senior Seminar

Image
This piece was made by Brianna Lorenzen. It was made with pastels on board. It was made in 2017. There is a sense of a symmetrical balance at the top half of the piece. The crosshatching came from the drawings being made on the drawings. The colors appear to be a little dull. The majority of the lines for this piece are organic. The vine like structures at the top tangle together to form diamonds. According to Brianna, the piece was inspired by her times when she was working at a mental institutions. Looking at the piece, it gives me a sense of uneasiness. It also reminds me of the unsettling tales of working at the mental institution. The purpose of this piece was to intrigue the viewer.

Crossing the Line

Image
I made this piece using a pencil, a pen and paper. First, I drew the picture using a pencil. Then I traced the pencil drawing with ink. Finally, I added some detail to the background. The mechanical lines are seen on the floor and walls. I added organic lines for the hero and the killer wielding the knife. The color is monotone. The focus is on the knife wielding villain and the hero. The crosshatching for the shadows are used to make them look like the scene is taken place in a lit room. The watery texture on the sharp end of the knife is the blood dripping. The piece that I drew, "Trapped with the Killer", is to stand out from the cartoon drawings I have made over the week. The purpose of this piece is to fill the viewer with suspense and horror while looking at this piece. It also serves as a cliffhanger to the viewer, leaving them with questions like "How will the victim escape?" This also serves as a tribute to the black and white horror films made back i...

Colors and Hues

Image
I made this piece using GIMP. First, I drew the lines. Second, I colored the picture using the paint bucket tool. Third, I added the patterns using the same paint bucket tool. Finally, I colorized the picture to make the picture look green. The predominant color that I used is green. There are different shades of green seen in this piece. The lighter shades of green are seen on the walls, poles and my avatar's fur. The darker shades of green are seen on my avatar's hair and shirt. The only instance where the color black is present is on my avatar's nose. There are also organic lines on my character. The line poles have a sense of repetition, as they are repeated, and they also have a symmetrical balance. The piece that I made, See Me at the Museum in Green , is based on my experience at the Beverly Art Walk. The color green is to represent that good times I have had when I was participating at the Beverly Art Walk. Looking at this picture, I felt...

Bonus: Beverly Art Walk

Image
The art that I saw at the Beverly Art Centers during the Beverly Art Walk was Wake Up  by Myia Brown. This piece was made using a castell pen. The piece is 16'' by 20''. The eyeball, blood and face have organic lines. While the majority of the colors are black and white, the color is noticeable in the blood. The iris and nostrils are round in shape. The texture for the blood is water-like. The focus is on the bleeding eyeball. The balance for the face and the eyeball is even. Myia Brown's Wake Up  looks as if one is experiencing a nightmare in reality and needs to wake up immediately. This represents how we deal with tragedies in real life and the constant thought that we are still asleep. Looking at this painting, I can sympathize with the artist. When I have experienced family tragedies, I felt like that I'm sleeping. However, these instances are examples that no matter how much we want to believe it's all a dream, we have to learn that what...

The series of pieces made by Amanda Williams is called Chicago is Iraq? The pieces were made in 2017. They were made with laser cut Arches paper. The pieces were 30 X 22 1/2 inches each. The series of pieces have repetition, as  one piece of Chicago is Iraq? looks like the other piece. The pieces each have a silky texture. The shapes are designed to look like Iraq. The pieces each have organic lines. Because of the repetition I mentioned earlier, they have a sort of rhythm in the series. The center of the focus in each piece is the border to represent Iraq and the chaotic lines within. The purpose of Amanda Williams' Chicago is Iraq?  is to recount the infamous comparison of Chicago to Iraq. Amanda Williams' Chicago is Iraq? brings attention to the viewers looking at the series about the neighborhoods that were plagued by daily violence. When I looked at the series, I was intrigued by how Amanda Williams used the chaotic lines to describe what happens in the cr...

Bonus: Murakami

Image
The art piece I saw at the Museum of Modern Contemporary Art made by Takashi Murakami was painted in 2006. The painting was called And Then And Then Rust Red.  It was made on an offset lithograph. The original copy of the painting was 19 by 19 inches. The predominant color for Murakami's painting is red. The character's teeth in the painting has noticeably mechanical lines. Most of the shapes used to design the character are circular, with the exception of the character's smile and the letters on the character's ears. The balance with the character's ears are symmetrical. The texture appears to look somewhat shiny. For the form, the character's ears and face appear to be two-dimensional. The repetition is noticeable when looking at the character's teeth. The purpose of Murakami's And Then And Then Rust Red is the fill the viewer with hope while introducing Mr. Dob, Murakami's avatar. When I looked at the painting, I felt an aura of positivity ...

Bonus: Karen Ami

Image
The piece that Karen Ami made is called The Matriarch . The Matriarch was made in 2017. It was made with clay, marble, and slate on wood.  It is 52 * 18 * 5 in The balance is almost symmetrical. The center of the focus is the heart at the bottom. The color scheme is monochrome. The shape is almost like in hourglass. The texture for the drawing appear to be soft, most noticeably on the heart. The lines in the drawing re predominantly organic. There is also a light contrast in the drawing. The purpose of The Matriarch is to retell the bond between a mother and her child. When I first heard about the artist's story about being stolen at birth from her mother, I was shocked. I could also share sympathy with the artist while looking at The Matriarch . If there is one thing we both have in common, both Karen Ami and I are close to our mothers.

Mosaic

Image
I created this mosaic using pictures I made over the weekend, two of my old pictures, ink pen, scissors, glue, colored pencils, and drawing paper. First, I used pen and pencil to draw the drawings I made over the weekend. Second, I cut out the old drawings I have made over the semester. Third,  I color the drawings I made. Fourth, I cut out parts of the drawings I made over the weekend. Fifth, I glued the parts of my drawings on the paper. Finally, I added new drawings using a pen and colored the drawings. The center focus of the mosaic is the caricature of my late aunt. The balance I made is intentionally asymmetrical. The colors have a mixture since they are cut out from the drawings I have created. There are patterns seen on the moon, the eight-sided star, the clock, the computer, the pencil, the boy, and the dog as well as the repetition, as the colors are repeated on the aforementioned drawings. Most of the drawings I cut out consist mostly of organic lines. The mosaic...
