2D Week 5: Figure Ground

Image
This figure ground piece, In Egypt , creates a feeling of hot weather. The triangles represent the Pyramids of Giza. The snake is added to create a sense of tension and danger. The palm tree indicates the typical vegetation of Egypt. This figure piece, Momotaro , tells the story of the Japanese Folklore hero, Momotaro. The shapes represent the specific elements from the Momotaro legend. The spherical shape represents the dumplings Momotaro have to the dog, the monkey and the pheasant. The two shapes at the top represent the oni, enemies of Momotaro.

2D Week 4: Line Project and Figure Ground

Image
For this project, I used a marker, a ruler, an x-acto knife, scissors, glue, and paper. First, I measured the white paper to make them look like 5x5 inch squares. Second, I cut the white paper out using an x-acto knife. Third, I used a ruler to draw dashed lines. Fourth, I arranged the drawings to make a U-shape. Finally, I used a pair of sscissors to cut some of the black paper off and glue the white squares with a glue stick. The composition, Direction in Confusion, uses dash lines to represent the steps of one's direction. As the art piece progresses, it leaves the viewer with a sense of confused. The composition forms a U-shape. Figure Ground: Connects images by difference of images from where they stand out. 2D Week 3: Line Art

Image
For each sketch, I used a pencil, ruler, scissors and paper. The paper I cut up with the scissors are 5 by 5 inches. The lines featured in the sketches are dashed lines. These sketches are drawn to stimulate the authentic feeling the viewer feels when they play video games from the 1980's.

2D Week 2: Project 1 Compositions

Image
In A Stream of Bubbles , the circles move downward. There is negative space between the series of bubbles. The purpose was to make the viewer feel like they are underwater.   In At the Ballgame , there is a symmetrical balance on either side of the composition. The circles and triangles are to represent different teams. The purpose is to fill the viewer with excitement as they are watching a ballgame. In Surreal Sunday , the triangles on the top form a triangular line. The focal point is the tall building. The purpose is to fill the viewer with an intense aura.  In Divine Intervention , the church is the focal point. There is an asymmetrical balance with the triangles. The purpose is to give the viewer a sense of peace amid chaos. In The Center of the Universe , the circles form unity to represent the planets. The big circle in the middle represents the sun. The purpose is to fill the viewer with curiosity as if they are looking at the planets in outer sp...

2D Week 1: Project 1 Progression

Image
For this composition, I chose circles as my shapes. After I drew the circles with my pencil, I used scissors to cut out the circles. I then used a glue stick to stick the circles onto my Bristol paper. The composition is called A Stream of Bubbles . The direction of the bubbles is diagonal. There are negative spaces surround the bubbles. I chose this technique to give the viewer an impression to imagine themselves underwater. What I was going for in this piece is to have the circles represent water in order to make the viewer feel like they are breathing underwater. I repeated the same technique I used for my first composition using the pencil, scissors, Bristol paper, and glue stick. I also used a ruler to measure the shapes to make sure they are the exact same size. This time, the shapes are pentagons, circles, squares, octagons, and triangles. There is a symmetrical balance on the left and right sides of the composition. The composition is called At the Ballgame . I chose ...
