Portfolio
My name is Anthony Rigoni and I am currently an
undergraduate student of Saint Xavier University. I am also an art major. In this portfolio that I have
made, you will have an inside look at how I created my projects from sketches
to digital illustrations. This portfolio serves as a dedication to how hard I
worked on my projects using Adobe Illustrator. In addition, you will also get
a little behind the scenes look of how I created my portfolio using Adobe
InDesign.
The first project that I will be talking about is the Idiom
Illustration project. To start off, I carefully chose nine idioms and drew them in my
sketchbook. I picked the Cat Nap Idiom sketch as my final choice for
the Idiom Illustration. I created an outline of my Idiom Illustration
using the pen tool and the basic shapes tool on Adobe Illustrator. I also had
to make sure that I used less anchor points to create the shapes. I
looked up the color wheel and colored the appropriate variations using the fill
tool.
The second project that I will discuss is the Cover and
Profile project. I used a friend's phone to take selfies and
chose the one you're seeing right now. I sketched the lights, mid-tones
and shadows of this selfie separately. I used the pen tool to draw the outlines on Adobe Illustrator. I then created six art boards and
colored the appropriate variations in each art board. I designed a
cover as part of my project. I repeated the same process I talked about earlier
for the additional art boards of my profile drawings. I combined the
Profile and Cover art illustrations together and put together a profile using
the Facebook template.
The last project I will describe is the Typography and
Poster project. I chose a top hat and created five sketches of it. I
also sketched the lights, mid-tones and shadows of the top hat separately. I created outlines of my top hat using the pen tool. I typed out
the words "top hat black", created outlines for each
letter and ungrouped them so that they will fit into the top hat. I
added gradient effects to the top hat shapes. I designed illustrations of
the tie, the cane and the gloves for my poster. Finally, I put them altogether
for the poster portion of my project and added stars to give my poster a classy
look.
In terms of my portfolio, I used Adobe Indesign for my
portfolio. The reason why I have chosen the gray color for the pages of my
portfolio is because I want you to focus on not the design of the pages, but on the text and images. After I added images on each page of my
portfolio, I typed out descriptions of my progress. I
then made sure that the descriptions are arranged correctly and put them into
black boxes so that you will be able to understand the descriptions of my
artwork.
In conclusion, when I took this course throughout this
semester, it helped me get used to using Adobe Illustrator. Of course, I would
like to thank Professor Matusek for giving me some very helpful advice with
each project. Without her guidance, I wouldn't know what to do next with my
projects. I certainly hope you will enjoy reading this portfolio as I
enjoyed working on my projects during this semester.
Myself
What I liked about doing this portfolio is that I had some experience making a portfolio in my previous semester. It was quite easy to make the pages match the same color with the master page tool. In addition, it was also easy to insert the texts and images on the pages on my portfolio.
What I didn't like about this portfolio is how I have to arrange the images and texts. I had to take extra precaution to make sure that the arrangement doesn't look asymmetrical or off of the pages. I also had to go through the trouble to make sure that the images and text are the correct sizes and shapes or they won't be able to look good on my portfolio.
