Selfies and the Difference Between Selfies and Self-Portraits






A selfie is a self-portrait photo taken with a smartphone to share on social network sites. A self-portrait is an artist's portrait made by the very same artist.
This self-portrait was done by Albrecht Durer in 1500. It shows Durer wearing a fancy coat with a fur collar. It was made with oil on linen wood. Durer made this self-portrait to portray himself as a religious figure.
This self-portrait was done by Frida Kahlo in 1940. Frida Kahlo paints herself with her hair cropped. This self-portrait was made with oil on canvas. Frida Kahlo painted this self-portrait because she wanted to stand out amongst female artists of her time.
This self portrait was painted by Henri Matisse in 1906. It shows Matisse wearing a striped T-shirt. It was also made with oil on canvas. Matisse painted this self-portrait because he wanted to the viewer to observe his masculine side.

This self-portrait was done by Paul Gauguin in 1889. It depicts Paul with a halo and a snake. This self-portrait is an oil painting on wood. Paul Gauguin created this portrait because he views himself as a demonic and divine being.

This self-portrait was done by Rembrandt in 1661. It features Rembrandt as Saint Paul. This self-portrait was made with oil on canvas. Rembrandt painted himself as Saint Paul because he views himself as a biblical view as Durer did in his self-portrait.
